Blog

Hi!

My name is Taylor and I made Wrdie.

Let me start by saying thank you for checking us out!

I've been working on Wrdie and its engine for more than 3 years now so it's very exciting for me to be able to finally share it with you.

But now that the beta is launched, my work is far from over.

Wrdie is built on 4 pillars:

  • Simplicity
  • Power
  • Self-Expression
  • Community

As we go through this beta period, it is important to measure how Wrdie is performing in each pillar and where we can improve.

Simplicity - The drag and drop text editor is a great start, but more improvements can be made. I think tag editing is still a clunky process that I would like to fix, and I'm excited to start getting user feedback on how to improve the navigation flow.

Power - I have a TON of ideas for new tags. "Add Command Text" would allow you to place links directly in the text that can be clicked on to run messages or visit exits. A "Load Message" tag would allow you to run other messages inside the current message and integrate their output. Also I would like to add better support for integer globals and make the text editor into a true WYSIWYG editor with formatting options.

Self-Expression - Right now Wrdie is not as expressive as it could be. What if you could pick your story's background and text colors? What if you could pick the font of your story's text? What if you had different templates to choose from? What if you could make your own templates? There's a lot of room for improvement here.

Community - This is another area severely lacking at the moment. Story ratings, tags and communities, author and tag following. These are just some of the community features I have on my radar.

So if you haven't noticed yet, I'm in this for the long haul. I want to make Wrdie the best interactive story platform on the planet and I need your help to do it.

I would love it if you played a story .

Something special happens when you're in the middle of a good story and have to make a decision. Do I go this way? Or that way? Can I trust them? What would have happened if I had chosen the other one? You should experience it for yourself and see just how fun it can be.

And it would be really cool if you checked out the story editor for yourself.

This is the heart of Wrdie and something that I've put a lot of hard work into making sure it's both fun and easy.

(If you ever have a chance, try having a friend play your story while you watch over their shoulder. It is so much fun to see them squirm over some decision that you know really doesn't matter, or maybe there was a choice that they thought was insignificant and they have no idea that they walked right into your trap and it's only heartbreak ahead. Muahahaha!)

Either way, thanks again for checking us out and I hope you enjoy your experience.

Don't forget that we have a twitter feed to follow and a facebook page to like. We also have a discord channel that you can join to get help and chat with others in the Wrdie community.

If you have any good ideas for improvements, check out our feature voting and suggestion page.

Or even better, my email inbox is always open to you at [email protected].

Sending you peace and love

Taylor
